1 Knights of the White Camelia
ист"Рыцари белой камелии"Тайное расистское общество, основано в 1867 в г. Новом Орлеане. Отстаивало принципы "превосходства белой расы" [ white supremacy] и выступало против радикальной Реконструкции [ Radical Reconstruction]. По организационной структуре было сходно с Ку-клукс-кланом [ Ku Klux Klan]. Деятельность этих обществ вызвала необходимость принятия Конгрессом США [ Congress, U.S.] законов о Ку-клукс-клане [ Ku Klux Klan acts] 1870 и 1871. Общество прекратило существование в 70-е гг. XIX в. В 1858-63 член Палаты представителей США [ House of Representatives] от штата Огайо. В период Гражданской войны [ Civil War] в политических кругах Севера заслужил репутацию главного критика политики федерального правительства по отношению к Конфедерации [ Confederate States of America]. Выступал против сильной центральной власти, боролся за расширение прав штатов [ states' rights] и против освобождения рабов, проповедовал идею превосходства белой расы [white supremacy]. Возглавил фракцию "медянок" [ Copperheads 3., Peace Democrats]. В 1863 был осужден военным трибуналом за предательство и выслан на Юг [Vallandingham Incident].
